Where to get started?

Justin Juno asked in Rails
Hey Go Rails,

I'm new to the site and looking for a good starting point. I'm fairly new to ruby on rails and looking to cover gaps in my knowledge. As well as learn best practices and build some cool applications. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance!
J.

P.S. I should add that I'm not new to development and work full-time as a frontend dev for an educational company.

Hey Justin!

I would probably recommend starting at the very first episodes. I covered a lot of the things you'll do in every app at the beginning and then started branching out to more features as time went on.

As Chris pointed out, earlier episodes are great for getting started. Don't forget to follow it up with some other conceptual tutorials (https://www.theodinproject.com/courses/ruby-on-rails) or the Rails Guides (http://guides.rubyonrails.org/). Best advice would be to build something in Rails, you'll learn the most from doing.

Can do! What's the Slack channel link?

It's either on the dashboard (click the logo in the navbar) as the 3rd step in the Welcome section, or on your account profile here: https://gorails.com/users/edit

Thanks Chris! I wasn't seeing it because I wasn't a paid member. However, I've officially joined and will be hoping into the Slack channel soon. Thanks!

Super old thread, but is the slack channel still a thing? I can't see a link in my profile page (paid member)
