We are looking for a full-time Full Stack Software Engineer to help us advance our flagship platform product, Health Expert Connect.
At ExtendMed you will play a key role and be valued daily for it. The Software Engineer role values skillful communication, negotiation, and flexibility. We seek a sharp, competent engineer and accomplished, assertive resource manager.
This role is hybrid, meaning we prefer 2-3 days in our Evanston office (North of Chicago) but we are open to other arrangements.
We expect employees to be involved in the entire lifecycle of our products, including supporting customized systems and office infrastructure. Our small size also means that we value creativity in problem solving and give our employees the freedom to try new approaches.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate focus, team relationship skills, and comfort working on various projects concurrently. Demonstrated experience, creative problem solving, and an instinct for optimizing are all far more valuable than a CS degree, so your background takes a second seat to your skillset.
Our core team currently consists of the CEO, CTO, and a small team of project managers, designers, and engineers. You would report directly to the CTO but would be interacting directly with everyone on a daily basis.

Software Development stack
- Our environments live on AWS, utilizing EC2/, RDS, S3, Cloudwatch, Cloudfront, ALB, and Lambda.
- Our platform is segmented into QA, Staging, and Production environments, all sandboxed and isolated from each other completely.
- Our webservers live behind an Application Load Balancer, each running a Fedora 9 variant, Nginx webserver, with Puma application servers. These servers are provisioned with Ansible.
- The Health Expert Connect platform backend currently runs on Ruby 3.2.2, Rails 7.1.1. The frontend utilizes a mix of Bootstrap, vanilla Javascript/JQuery, and React/Redux (using importmaps) for highly interactive widgets. Automated testing is managed with RSpec.
- The Health Expert Connect platform has several PORO integrations with other applications, such as Zoom/Teams/Docusign/Mailgun/Calendly.

- Atlassian products (JIRA/Bitbucket/Pipelines)
- Zoom Workspace for meetings, chats, and notes
Listed salary range is based on experience and skillset.
